In Italy, the party landscape changed and in the early nineties its traditional party system passed into history. It was not just about changing parties, but also about a complete transformation of the party system itself. Politicians had to get rid of the so called «imperfect democracy», trying to ensure alternation of the ruling parties and opposition in power. The author provides information on the appearance of new parties and movements, analyzes the formation of center-right and center-left coalitions in the framework of a changing electoral system. Finally, an attempt is made to propose scenarios of the forthcoming parliamentary elections outcome.
