Historically the European system of international relations is an example for the world system. Hence the transformation of the modern European system is closely connected with the transformation of the Westphalian system. The new system can be influenced by the Westphalian legacy, which consists of a variety of principles and rules. The article describes this legacy and try to explain the connection between history and modern days. Although new challenges like globalization have strong influence on the international relations today, balance of power still remains the main principle of overcoming anarchy in international relations.
