The purpose of the paper is to define the main trends of the EU policies in the post-soviet space. Attention is also drawn to the preliminary results of the Eastern Partnership initiative. The author argues that despite the lack of a clear strategy towards the region and the inability or lack of will to engage directly the local development, the European Union will be able to increase its presence there via a very active export of its legal norms (acquis communuataire) and intensive contacts with the regional NGOs and civil societies.
