This article examines theEuropean Union policy in the Transcaucasus, which became one of the key areas of foreign policy activities of this institution after the events in August 2008. It is noted that the EU policy is aimed both at stabilizing its nearest outer periphery and at approval of its independent role in capacity of a global player.
