The author proposes an understanding of causes why Republic of Moldova begins to gain more importance for the EU and Russia despite of its periphery position. The future of this state depends on the atmosphere in the Russian-EU relations and trends of its internal policy which are connected inter alia with the Transnistrian issue. In the article three scenarios are characterized of how the events will develop around the European integration of Moldova and the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
