The article deals with the challenges to Western and Central Asian security from radical Islam. In this context, the problem of Western countries’ interaction with Central Asia has been analyzed in the framework of countering the growing threat from international terrorism and Islamism. Particular attention is paid to Tajikistan, whose experience in this area is the most notable. The article is mainly focused on the latest developments of 2014–2015, but the author dwells on some previous periods in the history of Central Asian societies.
