This paper reviews the dynamics and features of the immigration flows in Italy. The citizenship legislation in force and the measures of social and cultural adaptation of foreign residents in the country are analyzed. Special attention is paid to the position of the «second generation» of immigrants. The reaction of the society towards the increased number of immigrants in Italy is examined also.
