Political institutions, processes, national-state interests and security problems: political life in the countries of Central-Eastern and South-Eastern Europe

Abstract

The article is a problem-methodological introduction to the new issue of the journal «Current problems of Europe» – «National and regional (specific) characteristics of political life in Eastern European countries 2010–2020». The first part of the introduction provides a description of the previous stage (2020–2023) of studying political processes in the countries of Central-Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (CESEE) and the evolution of their foreign policy strategies and tactics, conditioned by both the results of parliamentary and presidential elections (and, accordingly, the preservation or change of power in each of the countries of the region), as well as changes in intra-regional, pan-European and global international situations. Research problems and tasks are formulated that thematically unite the works of the authors of this issue, a general description of the sources is given, on the basis of which the authors conduct comparative and systemic analysis using various research methods adopted in political, historical and legal scientific disciplines. The authors whose articles are presented in this issue of the journal – historians, political scientists, lawyers and international affairs journalists – are followers of various analytical schools and representatives of various research institutions (INION RAN, Institute of Europe RAS, Institute for Slavic Studies RAS, Russian State University Centre for Humanities, Center for Political Technologies). The second part of the introduction provides a brief description of the studies presented.
