The article analyzes the US and the EU foreign policy in the context of the war in Gaza Strip. The reasons for the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 are identified. The impact of the conflict on the domestic policies of the US and the EU, as well as on the mood of the public and elites, is analyzed. The war in Gaza Strip has become a serious challenge that has formed a new socio-political fault line in the United States and has had a direct impact on the positions of the electorate in the 2024 presidential elections. A similar dynamic was observed in Europe. The US and the EU are strategic allies of Israel, capable of influencing Tel Aviv, so their position and role are important to consider when analyzing the situation. With the United States unwilling to get involved in the conflict, the Biden administration gradually turned to increasingly harsh rhetoric, putting pressure on Israel to force Tel Aviv to conclude a ceasefire agreement. In turn, the European Union also tried to play the role of mediator, coordinating its efforts with the White House, but the effectiveness of European diplomacy was limited – primarily due to the lack of unity among the EU member states. The authors show that during the conflict, there was a radical change in the foreign policy vector of the US and the EU: from collective support for the actions of Israel and the IDF to partial condemnation of the actions of the IDF and pressure on Israel to cease fire and begin peace negotiations. At the same time, the authors state that, despite collective pressure on Israel, the US and the EU have not been able to achieve practical results in resolving the conflict in Gaza Strip.
