Historians, philosophers, and writers have always been interested in the person-ality of a politician. The image of a politician is multifaceted and includes the psychological characteristics of a personality, its life trajectory, the evolution of a political actor in the context of historical events, changes in the life of the country and society. The analysis of the portrait of a political leader is not only of scien-tific, but also of practical interest, since the politician participates in the political process and exerts influence on it. In the center of attention is the figure of the left-wing French politician, leader of the party "Unconquered France" J.-L. Melenchon. The article analyzes the political portrait of a politician, his pro-gram, and his participation in the political life of the country. It shows how our hero's political preferences changed throughout his life: in his youth he was a Trotskyist, later became a member of the French Socialist Party (FSP), was elected senator and even received the post of minister in the socialist government (2000-2002). Throughout his life, J.-L. Melenchon struggles for leadership. However, the FSP is "hampering" his political ambitions. In 2008, he left the ranks of the FSSP, created his own left-wing radical party, and from that mo-ment began his independent voyage in the turbulent waters of French politics.
