The current global landscape is undergoing a period of significant geopolitical transformations, driven by a revision of the international order established after World War II. In Europe, this process has been accompanied by the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union (EU) – a country that had long exerted significant influence on both domestic and foreign policies of the EU, as well as on security issues. This development has been a major turning point for both the EU and the UK, which must now redefine its position and role in the global community and establish a new relationship with the EU as its closest neighbour, partner and economic ally. The aim of this paper is to examine the evolution of relations between the UK and the EU since Brexit, from the period of significant tension during the term of Prime Minister Boris Johnson to the current Labour «reset», and to explore how these developments have impacted the UK’s perception of its role in Europe and the world. Based on an analysis of official sources, it was concluded that the concept of «Global Britain», introduced in 2021 by the Conservative government, envisages the pursuit of global leadership in key areas, primarily technology and economy, as well as security. However, Britain’s security interests are contingent upon a «special partnership» with the US, making the interests of the transatlantic ally a priority. These factors have a significant impact on the efforts of the current government to re-establish relations with the European Union, making it significantly more challenging to achieve stated objectives.
