The article points to the reasons assumed as a basis of the French policy towards the United States and NATO for more than forty years. The author reviews historical preconditions, current state of affairs in the policy of France vis-а-vis NATO and the main fields for rapprochement between the Fifth Republic and the Alliance within the context of European and Euro–Atlantic integration. The article focuses on possible implications for global and regional interests of France after its fully fledged membership in NATO has been restored.
