The article covers major aspects of the EU-NATO relations. The author analyses the legal basis of cooperation, dwells on particularities of the institution level of relations and looks at the example of practical interaction between NATO and the EU. The EU operation Althea in Bosnia is examined as a case study of planning and carrying out a declared «strategic partnership».
