The increase of NATO’s presence in Eastern Europe: features and effects

Abstract

The article investigates the dynamics of NATO's expansion of its military presence in Eastern Europe and military and political consequences of this process. In this regard the article studies the usage by NATO at the territory of Poland and Baltic states of its available and also newly created in 2014–2016 military tools. The article analyses the features and political results of the Alliance military training activity in Poland (the case of military exercises «Anaconda- 2016»). The paper covers the dynamics of the militarization process of Baltic region and determines goals of NATO and regional actors in this process. The author concludes that there are positive and negative consequences of the Alliance military positions strengthening in Eastern Europe for the regional states.
